On the road again... 11/28/2010
![]() The last couple of weeks traveling around with the festival have been a lot of fun! We went along to a screening at St Gabriel's School in Castle Hill and they had gone all out to celebrate the festival and International Day for People with Disability. The kids were serving popcorn to each other and they had each been given a sheet to rate each of the films they saw. They really enjoyed being critics for the day and GEORGE AND THE DRAGON came out the clear winner! Robin De Crespigny, the director of WEE DREAMING, also came along to the screening and was there to chat to the kids about film making and answer their questions! Good times! ![]() Next we went to Wagga Wagga, where we have been touring the festival since the beginning. It is so lovely to see people come back year after year and celebrate and enjoy accessible cinema with us! The afternoon session of HAPPY FEET was a huge hit and SUMMER CODA got a great response from the audience, appreciative at the chance to see this beautiful film at their local cinema. ![]() Returning to Orange for the second time this year was exciting as we had the pleasure of putting the festival on in Orange's brand new cinema - Odeon 5! Big improvements in terms of access really benefited the audience members for HAPPY FEET and we were thrilled to see some happy and familiar faces at both sessions! A huge thank you to the staff from the local ADHC branches in Orange and Wagga who came down to lend a hand, it was much appreciated. Those sessions can get pretty hectic! And now... we are gearing up to take the festival to Riverside Theatres in Parramatta for the first time this Wednesday December 1st!The response so far has been fantastic and we can wait to get out there! Our last screening will be this Friday December 3rd on International Day for People with Disability and we will be joined by SUMMER CODA's director, Richard Gray who will introduce the film!! Check back soon for how it goes and don't forget to book your ticket if you are coming along!! ![]() Access All Areas Film Festival has kicked off for 2010 with our first screening held last Friday 12th November in Thomas Patterson School at the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children, who have been part of the festival two years running! Screening a program of shorts chosen especially for the kids featuring captioning and audio description, they were also joined by guest Robin De Crespigny, the director of short film WEE DREAMING, for a Q&A session. Principal Julie Kirkness sent us thanks on behalf of the kids saying “the films were enjoyed by all”. Next up on the tour is St Gabriel’s School this Friday, who also held a screening during the festival last year. We will be heading over to check it out, and Robin will be joining us again too, for popcorn, movies and another Q&A! Keep your eyes peeled for photos to come! Schools are still signing up to be part of the tour (screening this term or early next year) so if you are interested in having your school participate, simply get touch with us and we can send you the DVD and information pack! Keep you posted, Access All Areas Team x |
